Condemning the kidnapping of the Polisario dissent, Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, is unanimously agreed upon by NGOs, including those who defend the Sahrawi separatists’ right to expression, inside Morocco itself. Thus, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), one of the main organizations defending human rights in the country, known for its staunch defense of those who are usually designated as “inside separatists”, has strongly denounced the arbitrary arrest of the Polisario dissent, Mustapha Salma.
The arrest on September 21st of Mustapha Salma, chief of the Polisario police, for having expressed his support to the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Western Sahara, is quite “arbitrary and is a violation of freedom of expression”, as stated by AMDH. Mustapha Salma should have the right to freely express his political views, as insisted upon by an organization requesting a fair trial for Mustapha Salma in case a possible action is brought against him.
AMDH says to have taken notice of the Sahrawi official’s decision to return to Tindouf, after visiting his father in Morocco, and his intention to support the autonomy project among the Tindouf camps population. The AMDH had then called for respecting the right of the Polisario police official to freely move between Morocco and Tindouf camps, set up on the Algerian territory. It had also defended his right to physical integrity, security and to freedom of expression.
