The kidnapping, on last September 21st in Mhiriz, of Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, Inspector General of the Polisario Police, has taken new twists and may even put the Algerian regime on the dock. The European Parliament and the Europe Council have just seized the issue of atrocities committed against Mustapha Salma, some members of his family and his relatives. The Vice-Presidency of the European Parliament (EP) has expressed, in a letter addressed to the Moroccan mission at the EU, its concern about the information it had received on this matter, from the Moroccan Ambassador at the EU, Menouar Alem. The European body has in fact been informed about the circumstances of the kidnapping and the detention of Mustapha Salma and the danger threatening his physical integrity and his family, tribe and relatives’ safety, in reprisals against the position he has publicly expressed in support of the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco to reach a final settlement for the Western Sahara conflict.
The EP Vice-Presidency declared having invited the competent structures of the European Parliament to get in touch with the Maghreb countries, particularly with Algeria, in order to shed necessary light on this issue. From its part, the North-South Center of the European Council said to have referred the case to the EC Secretary General, with view to find possible solutions to the case of Mustapha Salma. Ambassador Menouar Alem had taken the necessary steps as regard to the Presidents and senior officials of EU institutions and EU Council, in order to draw their attention on the unacceptable situation incurred by Mustapha Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, since his abduction and detention by the Polisario militia and the Algerian security services. He called for an urgent intervention of EU bodies to bring Algeria to ensure the physical integrity of Mustapha Salma and the safety of his family members, his tribe and relatives in Tindouf camps. Currently, Mustapha Salma is being enclosed in a mobile container placed in a secret location, where he undergoes interrogations and tortures by the Polisario militia and the Algerian security services.
